New website content builds traffic for your website. As a small business owner, my main goal is to drive traffic to my website and contact me. Adding new content must have value for website visitors, and be relative to your industry. Research your target audience, their needs, concerns, interests, and “pain points”. Whether you have a B2B or B2C, we all have pain points! Put yourself in your client or customers shoes and write about what affects them. The Search Engines will recognize the value you are providing and will reward you with high search engine rankings.
Writing Quality Content:

- Know your Target Audience: Write for your audience, not for yourself. Using a personal experience you or your business was able to work through is a good example making it relatable. That will add value and expertise to your viewers.
- Choose the right Keywords: Finding the right keyword for your new website content helps determine the best topics to write about. The search terms your audience uses are the keywords you want to use for your content.
- Helpful links for keyword research; Semrush.com, KeywordTools.org, Moz.com.
- Keep it simple: Writing content that is easy to read and understand keeps your audience engaged.
- Use headings, paragraphs, bullet points and lists. This makes it easier to stay focused on what is being read.
- Use short sentences and not a lot of difficult words. Again, easier to read and understand.
- Visuals get Attention: Images, videos, and infographics get the readers’ attention quickly. They break up walls of text, helping readers understand the content better and easier.
- Googles’ Standards play a role: Incorporate E-E-A-T an acroynym for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. This is a framework that Google uses to evaluate the quality and credibility of the content. It makes sense, if users don’t trust your content, what value does it have?
New Content Ideas:
- Use a personal experience or problem for inspiration: Relate to your readers an experience you or someone you know had in business, and then how it was resolved.
- Find a trending topic: Connect a news item to some content that your readers may enjoy and even learn from. Content about a trending topic in your industry or niche is a perfect way to build credibility.
- Address a pain point: Share a client or customer pain point. As an example; an employees workmanship, and outlining the procedure used to overcome the issue.
- Repurpose existing content: This can be accomplished through many channels. Create a YouTube video, ebook, SlideShare, or an infographic for Social Media.
- Repurpose older blog posts: Take an old blog post, update it with any new developments, additional information and re-publish it.
New website content will make your website better than it was originally. Don’t forget to ask your website visitors to comment on various aspects of your website. Pay attention to what they say. Be a good listener and you will be rewarded with valuable information. This could lead to what changes, additions or deletions that your website visitors may enjoy you employing.
